As organizations place greater emphasis on
lowering their carbon footprint, the ability for project management
professionals to mold and streamline the mechanisms that initiate and execute,
service deliveries will be the key component in transforming “conformity to a standard”,
to standard business practice.

'SilverBaton’, a consortium of project
managers developed the “GPM™” as a distinction to certify project managers who
have demonstrated the ability to apply environmentally conscious project processes
to reduce waste and the dependency on non-renewable energy.

Green Project Management Certification | Overview | Detail |
At the Earth Summit in 1992, The Rio
Declaration on Environment and Development was signed. That was the tipping
point to greater emphasis being placed on sustainable development. Just four
years later, the International Organization for Standardization established ISO
1400 to address the operational standards that relate to the environment. It
was updated in 2004 to meet the environmental challenges companies face in the
21st century.
Just as the ISO 9000 standards for quality
management, ISO 1400 follows a continuous improvement process. ISO 14001:2004
environmental standard provides a framework for organizations to modify their
business practices to adhere to environmentally defined standards resulting in
an Environmental Management System.
